Kyrgyzstan was one of two former Soviet Republics located in Central Asia that retained Russian as their official language. Kyrgyzstan was declared an official bilingual nation in the 1990’sand was able to add Kyrgyz as its official language. Due to Soviet policies, it is possible to find ethnic Uzbeks or Tajiks in some parts of Kyrgyzstan.
