How weddings have changed over the decades! Coming from a handful to 400-500 invited guests; one-two to six-eight bridal party members; a fairly easy wedding car to expensive and enormous wedding cars; three course meals in order to six course meals; one-three live bands; simple attire to colorful and flamboyant dresses, suits and attire and off-the-cuff to well-prepared wedding speeches.
While we’re talking about aforementioned, wedding speeches remain an important part of being married and guests do anticipate hearing them, referring to them before, during as wll as after they’ve been delivered.
We know of wedding speeches delivered ahead of the meal, through the meal after your food, however it’s of your strong opinion the wedding speeches needs to be delivered following the meal. I know that for many wedding party speakers i.e. Father from the Bride Speech, Father with the Groom Speech, Bride Speech, Groom Speech and Bestman Speech (5 main speakers), they will would rather hold the wedding speeches before the meal, so they can enjoy their meal (some of them are spending money for it!). However, it’s all about the invited guests and the way most of them (and even the marriage venue staff) would rather the wedding speeches to be delivered as soon as the meal for several reasons, a few of which include:
The invited guests are already fed and watered and are not hearing wedding speeches before eating any breakfast (at least of food, which will be the case ahead of the meal, though weddings today do provide light snacks upon arrival on the wedding venue)
Food can be cooked and served at the agreed time (introduce the wedding ceremony speeches prior to meal along with their could be a delay of A quarter-hour to at least one.5 hours, driving your kitchen staff crazy attempting to keep food freshly cooked, presentable and edible)
The wedding ceremony speeches become the transition from the meal on the dancing (with nothing happening after the meal, people are expecting ‘a few words’ being shared about the Bride & Groom after which they know they could get up, move, have a break, take a stroll, navigate to the bar…)
It can be difficult for parents with the Bride & Groom to communicate in public, the majority of them wouldn’t be used of it. So, they may, if they so wished, speak ahead of the / their meal.
There should always be some sort of formal wedding speech(es) after the meal…
