Botanical garden of Gambarogno
This magnificent botanic garden is situated on the Gambarogno-side of Lake Maggiore, on the plain inside the hills between Piazzogna and Vairano.
Within this place, Otto Eisenhut, a patient and talented cultivator of plants and trees, cultivated thousands of beautiful and vibrant flowering plants like 950 forms of camelias, 450 different magnolias, azaleas, peonies and Rhododendron on a surface of greater than 20’000 m2.
Additionally, here grows also ivy, pines, juniper and other rare European and exotic coniferous trees.
Forever of year 2000 the park is led with the donation ” parco botanico del gambarogno “, which would be to ensure the continuity with this attractive garden using its valuable botanic collection.
Visitors need 60 minutes for the stop by at this park, connoisseurs probably somewhat longer.
Cardada Cimetta
Have you ever thought that above Locarno there is a view point that you can observe as well the minimum point (Lago Maggiore) as well as the highest point (Dufour Peak in Monte Rosa) in Switzerland?
Around the summit in the mountain, 1671 meters above sea level, a viewing platform was built which overlooks the entire region of Lake Maggiore. To the east the scene stretches from your Magadino Plain to Bellinzona. On the west the vista extends over probably the most famous peaks with the Swiss Alps such as the Dufour. South, after dark mountains that surround Lake Maggiore, you can see inside the distance the Ligurian Apennines, located near Genoa.
Further down, a couple of meters outside the arrival station with the cable car a footbridge was built which winds its way across the tops from the trees in the woods below. Out of this unusual scenic promontory you are able to admire the lake, the Centovalli and areas of the Maggia Valley.
