It is first important to note that Central Asia has a more relaxed approach to Islam than its neighboring countries of Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, it should also be kept in mind that it’s technically a Muslim region and a little bit of caution should be applied in some areas. T-shirts and shorts that are long are fine for both sexes in the cities, but when visiting mosques that are active, all visitors should wear pants which are shorter than the knee and tops that cover their shoulders. Also, a headscarf is suggested for women. In this tour, we’re traveling in remote locations which are rarely frequented by tourists. The locals are conservative in their dressing and thus you’re likely to be more comfortable dressed in conservative clothes too.

In terms of alcohol, the choice is typically limited to vodka or beer. Those who want something else – Scotch or Gin for instance – needs to purchase it duty free and bring it with them. It isn’t easy to locate mixer drinks such as tonic water.
